Original Artwork by Tasmanian Artist Aimee Rowland, Acrylic on Discarded Clothing. I am still searching for you, 2022 is a poignant self-portrait that delves into themes of identity and mental health. Painted in acrylic on discarded clothing, this piece captures the vulnerability and introspection of grappling with mental illness, exposing the struggles that arise. The artwork represents the ongoing journey of self-discovery and the quest for understanding amidst internal struggles.
"The clothing of strangers symbolises a certain estrangement from the world; how the clothing is stitched together reveals potential and hopes for unity, then layered with the abstract self-portrait personifying the unrecognisable emptiness that comes as a by-product of identity loss. It is my portrait painted on the identity of a stranger, approaching the feelings of a loss of connection with the self."
